What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling. A chiropractor will work in partnership with you to ensure your optimal health and wellness.

Chiropractors recognize that many factors affect your health, including exercise, nutrition, sleep, and heredity. Chiropractic focuses on maintaining your health naturally to help your body to resist disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms of disease.

The nervous system is the communication system of your body. This system can often be interrupted by many things such a physical, emotional, or chemical stress, which can lead to of the bones getting stuck or fixated. When this happens, one or more of the bones in your spine moves out of position, spinal nerves can then become irritated and interfere with your body’s normal function, causing pain and/or discomfort.

Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.

What we do

Gentle Chiropractic

A Touch of Health uses a gentle approach to chiropractic, as we strive to allow our patients a moment to relax from the stress of their busy everyday lives.  Your first visit includes a comprehensive chiropractic exam that is focused on getting to the root cause of any problem area or area of discomfort.  We exam an individual’s posture, gait, and any areas of stress, to better identify the underlying cause of problem areas.   It also includes an adjustment, HRV (Stress) Scan, and a brief session on our spinalator.   We primarily use an activator, a small hand held adjusting tool, to adjust misalignments in the spin as well as other gentle chiropractic tools.

The gentle approach uses low force, which means no cracking, twisting, or popping of the spine. Adjusting instruments are also used to help correct vertebral stresses or subluxations in the spine.

Activator Method- the Activator is a hand-held, aping-loaded, manual tool that provides a low-force impulse. With the patient lying face down on the adjustment table, the chiropractor evaluates leg length, performs muscle testing, and adjusts the spine or extremity joints using the Activator tool.

Cox Flexion-distraction- this technique involves a gentle adjustment that is designed to adjust vertebrae by applying a gentle stretch to the lower spine, usually in a series of repetitive slow movements similar to a rocking motion.

Drop Technique- the chiropractor presses down quickly and firmly on a particular area of the spine while a section of the drop table falls, taking advantage of gravity to apply the adjustment. The table has different sections that can be raised and dropped in accordance with the localization of the spinal adjustment.

Technology and Chiropractic

A Touch of Health has installed a state of the art, spinal-stress, scanning system to help assess the wellbeing of our community!  This computerized program has revolutionized the diagnosis and tracking of stress related spine and health issues.  It is certified by the Space Foundation in cooperation with NASA, and is designed to detect where you hold onto stress and how that affects your overall health.

This test, also known as the Heart Rate Variability test (HRV), measures your heart’s rate and rhythm, giving us clues as to how certain lifestyle choices are impacting your health.  The HRV helps us as chiropractors determine your overall ability to adapt to the environment.  It does this by looking at the timing of your pulse, and determining the balance and tension within your nervous system.

Stressful lifestyle habits including poor dietary choices, limited exercise, and constant emotional aggravation can cause the body to be caught in the “fight-flight” response.  This can lead to exhaustion and a draining of a person’s reserves.  This test is non-invasive, painless and helps Dr. Katrina and Dr. Nick provide their patients with the specific care necessary for improved health and nervous system function.  The nervous system is the most important system in the human body and it is important to have it checked periodically.
